Worlds Most Dangerous Road, Bolivia

worlds most dangerous road bolivia

As you leave La Paz the highest capital city in the world at 3500m you continue to climb before you reach the worlds most dangerous road. Every year 300 people die travelling the 50m stretch from La Paz to Corrico. Now a major Bolivian tourist attraction, mountain biking down the road is extremely popular but still very dangerous.

Kelimutu, Flores, Indonesia

kelimutu

Looking down over the small village of Moni, Kelimutu truly is a sight to behold. The incredible 3 lakes coloured green, chocolate and black are a natural phenomenon. Making a trip here travelling by boat and bus from Bali is certainly not easy. We spent 2 days of solid travel to get there. After negotiating with the tauts getting lied to about a ferry not running, the bus setting on fire, waiting an entire day being stared at in a grotty port and sleeping on a concrete floor of a ferry we finally made it, and it was breathtaking…

Bia Hoi, Vietnam

biahoi

One of my favourite things about travel in Vietnam is the national drink ‘Bia Hoi’. Its probably the cheapest beer in the world with a couple of litres costing as little as 25p. In Vietnam ‘Bia Hoi’ is beer that’s freshly brewed every day and distributed to the many small bars that line the city streets. Its served warm from the keg and then poured over ice. The quantity you get varies but the biggest plus is its unaltered by chemicals. Bia Hoi only lasts 24 hours so it sells out pretty quickly in most bars.

Tilcara, North Argentina

tilcara

This remote dusty village is a bit of the beaten track but has one of the best hostels we’ve stayed in. Situated on a hill looking over the village its a bit of a puff to get there if you’re not used to the 2500m altitude. Shopping for vegtables from the morning markets and barbequing steak chosen from one of the many butchers remains a warm memory.

Aitutaki Lagoon, Cook Islands

Well worth the cost of the short flight from Raratonga. I defy anybody not to be blown away by the beautiful crystal clear lagoon and the beautiful sandy beaches. Get away from the busy main tourist island of Raratonga to Aitutaki, a small group of islands surrounding the incredible lagoon. Two of these islands were chosen for Channel 4s TV show Shipwrecked.
