Kite flying in Jakarta, Indonesia, originally uploaded by benedict.adam.

One of the better things to in Jakarta, in front of the presidents last erection, watch the kids fly kites as the sunsets. Of course we haggled hard, bought one too and joined in, I was particularly pleased with my handmade kite as it had a drawing of Sponge Bob Square Pants on it. Great!

Kelimutu Sunrise, Indonesia

This shot was taken after a very early morning trip to see the 3 coloured lakes of Kelimutu. The fairly sketchy drive from Moni on the back of 2 kids motorbikes took us up a steep windy, pot hole ridden road, through a river before both bikes managed to break down. Luckily for us a passing Jeep rescued us (for a price of course!) and we got up there in time for the unforgettable sunrise.

Indonesian Bemo Mirrors

Exploring the delights of Bajawa on the Indonesian island of Flores required us to hire a Bemo for us and our guide.
This photo is of the particularly nice set of mirrors the proud Bemo owner had used to decorate the inside of his clapped out van.

It seemed to be the norm for Bemo’s to be kitted out with the largest and loudest sound systems possible. We spent many short journeys being vibrated to our core, as a Indonesian boy band ballad’s blazed out the huge sub woofers that were cleverly placedĀ  under the cramped Bemo seats.

kelimutu

Looking down over the small village of Moni, Kelimutu truly is a sight to behold. The incredible 3 lakes coloured green, chocolate and black are a natural phenomenon. Making a trip here travelling by boat and bus from Bali is certainly not easy. We spent 2 days of solid travel to get there. After negotiating with the tauts getting lied to about a ferry not running, the bus setting on fire, waiting an entire day being stared at in a grotty port and sleeping on a concrete floor of a ferry we finally made it, and it was breathtaking…
