Watch a Brazilian Football Match

I love football,  but I can’t think of a better, more apt thing to do in Brazil than go and watch a Brazilian football match. Don’t buy an over priced ticket from your hostel, games rarely sell out unless there big Derby’s so just make you own way down to the ground.

We went to the Maracana to watch Fluminense, my now adopted Brazilian team. Its not dangerous, the local crowds couldn’t have been friendly, giving us confetti to throw,  letting us wave their huge flags and even taking us out for drinks after to celebrate.

I can’t think of anything that would typify Brazil more for me than watching a game of football in the Maracana, the crowd singing and dancing with the Christ the Redeemer in the distancewatching down on us.

Will there be any games held here in March 2012? I cant seem to find fixtures !

    • Hi Wayde,
I’m braziliam and lived in Rio 3 years of my life, Maracanã is closed now to reform the structure for the Fifa World Cup, it will re-open just in 2013(end of)
so now the games are goin on Engenhão(other big stadium in Rio), but Engenhão is in a dangerous neighboorhood , so if u want to gol watch a good game there (see Fluminense, the best team =p) u gtg with a trusted tour guide
      have fun
