Off the beaten track in New York?

Woop wooh!! We’re off to New York for 5 days next month which we’re very very excited about! We bagged some pretty cheap flights and made a massive saving on a room by bidding for it through Priceline, this has left us feeling pretty smug
After some initial research we’re getting a good idea as to the classic attractions of the big apple and we’ve booked tickets for the Knicks vs. Nets which I’m well pleased about (I was a big fan of Vince Carter growing up and I think he plays for the Nets, i’m kinda out of touch with BBall these days)
What we would love to know is if any one’s any great tips for getting a bit off the beaten track and your number one thing to do in New York. Thanks!

I too was curious as to what you could find outside new york in that area and couldn't think of very much. I was able to find this http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/165432/e... online. Might be better to get there and ask the locals where they like to go.

Take a subway over to Brooklyn, there's some good bars with friendly people, probably friendlier than Manhattan.

Here's another tip, don't try to see too much, you will be totally exhausted. Also, you look at the map and you think "i'll walk it, it's only 4 blocks" but those blocks are long, really long. Get your head round the subway and use it.
